SRT Inaugural Ceremony
Ten years have passed since the first excavations for the basement. Ten years of hard work, a decade of exaltation and problems, ten years of hopes and trials ... and, finally, the big day!
Monday, September 30th the formal ceremony of inauguration of the Sardinia Radio Telescope will take place. An important event, which the Italian Minister of Education, University and Research, Prof. Maria Chiara Carrozza, was supposed to attend; unfortunately, the hectic agenda of the Government in these days will prevent her from participating.
Instead, the inaugural ceremony will take place in the presence of the Undersecretary of the same Department, Prof. Marco Rossi Doria, and of Prof. Bignami, President of the INAF (National Institute for Astrophysics), Dr. Flamini, programme manager for the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and Dr. Cappellacci, President of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia. The president of the Italian national radio and TV network (RAI) and personalities of the European radio astronomy will also attend the ceremony.
It will be a very exciting event for all the people who have worked hard in recent years to build this outstanding instument.
That's why the ceremony will be attended not only by the authorities, not only by astronomers (Sardinian astronomers, of course, but also astronomers coming from all over Italy and from different parts of Europe), but also by representatives of the research institutions and of the companies involved in the realization of the SRT, and of course by the mayors of the Gerrei towns (the Gerrei region is the part of Sardinia where the SRT is located).
A thousand people is expected to take part in this big event, including special guests, students and public of all ages.
And for all those who will not be able to take part in it, the ceremony will be available for live streaming starting from 11.15 am!
You are all invited!
